Tips for Safer Office and Field Interactions - AFI-LLC Newsletter May 2020

        Transitioning from Crisis to Continuity
We are again holding our standard newsletter and featured monthly commentary in the interest of helping our clients
and colleagues transition from this crisis to business continuity. We are thankful to still be receiving our assignments,
although understandably at a decreased pace – we expect this to turn once these transitions happen. Thank You!

There has been a great deal of uncertainty in our profession, and with our clients – from attorneys to other
investigators. We have been working diligently with our various associations leadership to assist in moving forward. On
the upside, business practices and technology has quickly evolved to better and more frequent communication, remote
and distance activities – including client interactions and investigations. As mentioned last month, for us there was no
change in the manner in how we provide our services and conduct our consultations and assignments. However, many
had to make several adjustments and we are glad to continue helping you adapt. Our days have probably been busier!

A special thanks to the NCISS Board, Executive Committee, Legislative Committee, President & Executive Director, and
other associations whose leadership and membership have all come together. Without them, this adapting for
thousands of professional investigators would not be possible so quick and smooth. Our special thanks to everyone!

        Our Continuity Plans
We are now in the process of developing several legal investigation based on-demand webinars for training. These will
cover topics from our over 30 years of experience, adapted from speaking engagements, books, and articles we have
published over the years. These will be for attorneys, investigators, and consultants in basic, intermediate and advanced
levels. Production is a grueling process, and we look forward to rolling them out through our agency at
www.InvestigativeCourses.com, and our partners at www.PIEducation.com and www.cditctraining.com, as well as
interested associations and groups. Please visit our partners! Don’t forget, until the end of June, PI Education is offering
you 10% off any course using code FriendsofDean at checkout.

Be Safe. Be Healthy. Together We’re Better!

        UPDATE - Colorado PI Licensing
The Colorado’s legislature reconvenes 05/18/2020 to finish the legislative session. During this crisis DORA classified
Private Investigators as ‘non-critical’ or ‘non-essential’ and the most restricted travel and business mandates. The state
health department (CDPHE) had some flexibility. Believing DORA did not have the authority to supersede CDPHE, the
PPIAC Legislative Committee (of which Dean is a member) immediately went to work under the leadership of Robert
Orozco (Chair) and sent a letter to DORA. As of 04/30/2020 DORA no longer included PIs under any classification of
restricted business activities. CDPHE has classified PIs with guidelines for Office and Field Services. This is an important
win by PPIAC for all Colorado PIs. Our agency has drafted a policy for compliance with new CDPHE guidelines. In
addition, PPIAC has arranged with the CDPHE to exclusively register members available for the Contact Tracing Program.

In October Colorado’s Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) recommended the repeal of the 2015 PI licensing law,
citing no evidence of past or potential public harm. PPIAC’s Legislative Committee is working daily to have passed
renewed legislation to continue the PI licensing program. At only five years old the licensing program is a proven success
protecting the public. The bill to continue licensing has bi-partisan House and Senate sponsorship, and will be heard in
the House Appropriations Committee, the House floor votes, and finally through the Senate process and governor.

The support of clients and colleagues is needed and appreciated!
Many have already provided letters of support for our next committee hearing once the bill is introduced. Please keep
them coming, we need and appreciate your help. A letter from each association board is helpful. Please send your
letters attention to Colorado General Assembly Members and send them to Robert@api77co.com or our agency –
associates@DeathCaseReview.com. Review the PPIAC Fact Sheet at www.DeathCaseReview.com/HB20-1207.
