Review of Indiana Society of Professional Investigators (INspi) “Quality of Standards Guide”
Developed by INspi in 2020, this guide provides a foundation for professional agencies and investigators for a uniform
set of standards of practice. Associations will also find a foundation for their own members. These are not specialty
standards, such as surveillance or criminal defense, and they are not license specific standards. These standards cover
three areas: 1) Ethical Behavior and Standards for Investigators including Professional Relations, Relations With Clients
and the Public, and Relations With Investigators and Others; 2) General Standards for Investigators Qualifications and
Due Professional Care; and 3) Qualitative Standards for Investigator including Planning, Executing Investigations,
Reporting, and Managing Investigative Information. Each section is then detailed with standard, guidance, and
recommendations in the areas listed and duties of the professional investigator. It is not specific to Indiana or licensing –
it is developed for the professional investigator in Indiana, any state and even any country. Of course, any applicable
licensing and regulation must be followed.

With the July 2020 governor’s veto of the PI licensing program in Colorado, now due to end 08/31 this year, the
Professional Private Investigators Association of Colorado (www.PPIAC.org) Legislative Committee has been finalizing
recommended standards to members. PPIAC assisted the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) with
standards and ethics for the new program in 2015, and will modify to adapt as recommended guidance to members.
Our agency has long had published professional ethics, and in 2020 modified the PPIAC/DORA PI licensing program
standards as our own. These are available on our website (www.DeathCaseReview.com). For over a decade our agency
has published the Quint-Essential Qualities of a professional Investigator – these are below in every newsletter.
