FALI Members Show Positive Side of PIs (Amy O’Rourke – FALI Executive Director)
Business Observer (04/01/2021) - Private investigators overcome pandemic-era obstacles
You’ve seen them in old black-and-white movies — hardscrabble private investigators who do whatever it takes to break
the case. Today it's a bit different, and PIs have to overcome some uncommon business hurdles.
Check out this article from the Business Observer featuring three FALI members - great representation of the
professionalism and integrity of the PI profession Rick Root (FALI President), Mark Aubin, and Walt Zalisko!

Assault Suspect Caught Inside Accuser's Home During Zoom Hearing
Must Watch – This Zoom hearing had to end abruptly when the court realized a suspect was in the same house as the
victim accusing him of assault, despite a no-contact order. Police quickly responded to confirm the woman was safe, and
arrested the restrained ex-boyfriend.
Technology is good - and bad. Time to end this 'new normal' and not endanger others. Kudos to the prosecutor who saw
the signs of something wrong, the judge for his actions, the police for their response – and the victim for staying calm.

Kudos to the prosecutor noticing odd behavior, judge handling it, and LE getting there.
(Ellis Armistead, CLI – Armistead Investigators - CO)
Nearly three years ago, a judge overturned Green's conviction after agreeing with the defense that the prosecution had
failed to turn over potentially exculpatory evidence to Green's legal team. The state appealed and Green had been in
prison until Wednesday awaiting the result of the appeal. On Wednesday, the judge, citing Green's health and that he
was being held in violation of the Constitution since he no longer had a conviction, ordered him freed in the interim.
It is rare to see this in the career of a legal investigator.
We are honored to know the three key legal investigators involved – Ellis Armistead, CLI (Armistead Investigations – CO),
George Michael Newman (Tactical Investigative Services – CA), and Paul Ciolino, CLI (Paul J. Ciolino & Associates – IL)

Officials Claim Beloved Teacher Found Stabbed 20 Times Took Her Own Life
A medical examiner determined that Ellen's death was a homicide but later changed the official cause to suicide, after
conversing with investigators. Experts say suicide impossible. The injuries that a Pennsylvania teacher endured during a
brutal stabbing suggests that someone may have killed her, despite the official suicide ruling. An expert private
investigator said that authorities missed key points during the initial investigation of the young woman’s death, that may
have changed the outcome of the case.

Authorities Ruled Their Father's Death a Suicide, But His Family Said it Doesn't Add Up
There were two gunshot wounds according to the autopsy, one behind his left ear and the other at the base of his skull.
“How do you shoot yourself twice in the head in two different directions? One of them being in the base of the skull and
the left side when he’s right-handed? It didn’t make sense.”
