Richard Dumas, well-known for his portraits, is not a portraitist, but a photographer. His pictures appear to be placed out of time, making them icons through the mystery of his images and their unexpected vibrations of light. Asa Sjöström’s work focuses on international understanding, human equal rights, and the situations of women and children around the world. She has been awarded in POYI, twice in World Press Photo, and multiple times in the Swedish Picture of the Year Award. Her work has been given numerous grants such as the Catchlight Activist Award (2015), honorable mentions in the Unicef Picture of the Year Award and the Swedish Red Cross Journalism Award. 61-62 John Vink, born in Belgium, studied photography at a fine arts school in 1968 and began working as a freelance journalist three years later. He joined Agence Vu in 1986 and
won the Eugene Smith Award for his work Water in the Sahel, a photo-essay on the management of water South of the Sahara. Vink became a full member of Magnum Photos in 1997. 65-66 David Haas was born and raised in Harrisburg, PA. He graduated with a BFA in Photographic Illustration from the Rochester Institute of Technology. He briefly worked in a commercial photography studio in Chicago until a career change took him to medical school. Haas currently resides and works in Wilson, NC as an ophthalmologist and a photographer. (Photo shot in Florence, Italy, 2008.)
Frédéric Stucin is a Paris-based photographer. While his work is focused on shooting personalities for the press, he enjoys street photography as well, shooting in cities across the world. Rania Matar was born in Lebanon and moved to the U.S. in 1984. She studied photography at the New England School of Photography. Matar started teaching photography in 2009 and offered summer photography workshops to teenage girls in Lebanon’s refugee camps with the assistance of non-governmental organizations.
