Daniel Wessell’s photography is a “multi-faceted melting pot of empowerment and self- discovery.” Since 2011, he has photographed the Oglala Sioux of South Dakota and life as it exists on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. Over these years his photography has evolved from a general look at Lakota society to the study and teaching of photography and B&W darkroom photographic processes to young people from 7 to 24-years-old. 53-54 The Detroit Publishing Company was started by publisher William A. Livingstone and photographer Edwin H. Husher in the late 19th-century. It wasn’t until 1905 that the company called itself the Detroit Publishing Company. The company acquired exclusive rights to use a form of photography processing called Photochrom. Photochrom allowed for the company to mass market postcards and other materials in color. Their products were sold in the United States. Boryana Katsarova, born in Bulgaria, 1981, is a freelance photographer specializing in documentary, editorial and portrait photography. Her work is represented by the Paris based agency Cosmos, after covering the news in the Balkans for AFP during for three years (2007-2010). She holds Bachelors Degree in Artistic and Applied Photography from the National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts (NATFA), Sofia, Bulgaria and is currently studying a Master Degree in Esthetics of Applied Photography at the same Academy. Documentary photographer Vincent Cianni graduated from Penn State University, the Maryland Institute College of Art, and SUNY New Paltz. 55-56 Alexey Myakishev, born in Kirov, is a professional photographer. He is the recipient of the Interphoto award (1998, 2001) and was awarded scholarships from the Ministry of Culture of Russia (1996, 1997). Currently residing in Moscow, he is an instructor at the educational program, “Leica-Akademia” and is working on a number of documentary projects on Provincial Russia.
