Chapter 5

                           Business process re-engineering (BPR)

BPR is the fundamental rethinking and radical redesign of business
                               processes.

 BPR may transform the finance function with processes being developed
from a blank sheet, usually with the assistance of IT.

The main stages of BPR are as follows:

Each task performed by the finance function is
                 1. Process identification broken down into a series of processes and
these are analysed to ensure they add value.

If they do not add value, the processes are
                 2. Process rationalisation discarded.

                  3. Process re-design The remaining processes are re-designed.

New processes are implemented, ensuring the
                 4. Process reassembly organisation is operating in the most efficient
                                                           way.
