Linear programming

                           Solving linear programming problems

1.1 Why is linear programming necessary

When there is more than one scarce resource (or constraint) then the decision
making technique used in the previous chapter will not be sufficient.

Instead a mathematical model known as linear programming must be used to
determine the optimal use of the scarce resource, which in turn provides an optimal
production mix for the products in the organisation’s portfolio.

Linear programming uses algebra and simultaneous equations and these
skills must be practiced and revised.

There is a revision of these skills contained in the Study Text.
