Chapter 20

                           Cloud technology

Cloud and mobile computing is computing based on the internet. It
avoids the needs for software, applications, servers and services stored
on physical computers. Instead it stores these with cloud service
providers who store these things on the internet and grant access to
                             authorised users.

               4.1 Benefits of cloud computing

 Sharing data – more data can be held and it can more easily be shared

                On-demand self-service – data is available on-demand

 Flexibility – data can be accessed in a variety of ways

 Collaboration – data can be worked on by more than one user at the same time

 More competitive – it can remove some IT diseconomies of scale for small
                     businesses

 Easier scaling – it can grow more easily as the business grows

                Reduced maintenance

 Back-ups – it provides and extra layer of security

 Disaster recovery – becomes easier and quicker

 Better security – can be more difficult to achieve unauthorised access
