“ The ‘56 Ford Sunliner is my rst car and I’ve had it since 1967. I spent the summer of ’67 in California and worked in a car wash, using the money earned to buy
this car. I drove it home at the end of the summer and enjoyed it up until 1971 when it was wrecked in San Francisco, California.
Jan and I were on our second date when some kids came through a red light and destroyed the front end. The totaled
car was placed in various inside storage locations for the next forty-two years and nally pulled out and taken to our home garage to become my current restoration project. My goal is to drive it to my ftieth Ferris High School reunion in 2018.”

The eggcrate grille featured on
the 1955 cars was widened into a series of rectangles for 1956, but this subtle exterior change was nothing compared to Ford’s adoption of a 12- volt electrical system across the line.

The Sunliner name rst appeared on a Ford with the 1952 Crestline, but it wasn’t until the Sunliner Fairlane appeared in 1955 that the model really started to take off.
During the Sunliner’s 11-year-long production run, the 1956 model was one of the most popular. The 1957 model sold the most at 77,728 units, but the 1956 version was the second highest-selling Sunliner, with 58,147 examples sold. Of this number, 57,872 were ordered with the V-8 engine. There were new convenience options, such as a new air-conditioner system, a new heater, and a nine-tube signal-seeking radio.
used by both 1955 and 1956 Crown Victoria.
The 1955 Ford was also produced by Ford Australia, which offered it as a V8 Customline 4-door sedan and as a V8 Mainline 2-door coupe utility. The latter body style was developed in Australia utilising an imported convertible chassis.
