Moving letter from the leader of the Jewish people who enlightens the eyes of the nation with his works Mishnah Berurah and Chafetz Chaim, Rabbi Yisrael Meir HaCohen of Radin to Rabbi Yonah Merzbach. Radin, 1932.

Background: e letter was sent to Rabbi Yonah Merzbach of Darmstadt, Germany. In the letter the Chafetz Chaim mentions that he promised the yeshiva׳s emissary that he would try to collect up to one hundred marks for the yeshiva in Radin. e yeshiva׳s condition is “so very terrible that it is indescribable, for the past many months three hundred and fty students who are great in Torah study and fear of Heaven have not received their basic provisions, and they are su ering from hunger and poverty, ״.s very existence is in danger׳and the yeshiva
As a result, the Chafetz Chaim hurries Rabbi Yonah Merzbach, writing that he is sure that he will keep his word and help the yeshiva. Rabbi Yonah Merzbach served as rabbi of Darmstadt, Germany. 261 מכתב נרגש מרבן של ישראל ה״חפץ חיים״
מכתב נרגש מאת רבן של ישראל המאיר עיני ישראל בחיבוריו משנה ברורה וחפץ חיים רבי ישראל מאיר הכהן מראדין אל הרב יונה מערצבאך. ראדין, תרצ״ב [1932].
מפרט: [1] דף נייר רשמי. 20X27 ס״מ. בלאנק של החפץ חיים בעברית ובפולנית. מכתב מוקלד במכונת כתיבה עם חתימת יד קדשו של בעל החפץ חיים חותמתו.
רקע: המכתב נשלח להרב יונה מרצבך מדרמשטט שבגרמניה, במכתב מזכיר החפץ חיים שהוא הבטיח לשליח הישיבה להשתדל לאסוף עד מאה מרק עבור הישיבה בראדין. והנה מצב הישיבה הוא “נורא למאד שאי אפשר לתאר אשר זה הרבה חדשים שלא קבלו שלוש מאות וחמישים תלמידיה גדולי תורה ויראה הספקתם המצומצמת, והם מתמוגגים מרעב
ודוחק נורא וכל קיום הישיבה עומד בסכנה ח״ו״.
בעקבות כך מזרז בעל החפץ חיים את רבי יונה מרצבך כשהוא כותב שבוודאי הוא ישמור מוצא שפתיו, ויסייע לישיבה. הרב יונה מרצבך כיהן כרבה של דרמשטט שבגרמניה. באותה תקופה האינפלציה בגרמניה השתוללה, ויתכן שבגין המצב הכספי במדינה, היה קשה לאסוף כספים. גם מה שנזכר במכתב סכום של ‘עד מאה מרק׳ הרי שער המטבע הגרמני ירד מאד. אמנם, ידוע שאכן הרב מרצבך סייע לישיבת החפץ חיים בראדין. בתקופה זו של חייו החפץ חיים כבר לא כתב מכתבים בעצמו, המכתב
