274 Letter from Rabbi Yehuda Assad to
his Son-In-Law. 1861
Letter in the handwriting of Rabbi Yehuda Assad, rabbi of Szerdahely and one of the greatest Hungarian rabbis, which was sent to his son-in-law Rabbi Aharon Bichler, rabbi of Jászberény, 1861.
Speci cations: [2] pages, 21x17 cm. Signed autograph. Unique Features: In the center of the rear side of the leaf is a
slightly broken red wax seal of Rabbi Yehuda Assad.
Content: e letter was sent to his son-in-law: “My beloved, my son-in-law, my upright and sharp student ... and my modest daughter the Rebbetzin Sarel.״ Most of it is Torah thoughts.
Background: Rabbi Yehuda Assad - Mahari״a Assad was rabbi of Szerdahely and one of the most prominent Hungarian rabbis. He was born in 1797 in the village of Aszód adjacent to Budapest. He studied in the yeshiva of Rabbi Mordechai Bennet, who appointed him to teach classes within a short period. When the Chatam Sofer met him he was very impressed by him, and even took action for him to be accepted as rabbi of Szerdahely. He established a yeshiva there which was attended by 150 stu- dents. He was one of the most important rabbis and spiritual leaders of Hungarian Jewry, and was also known for his battle against Reform. He died in 1866, and was the author of Shu״t Yehuda Ya׳aleh, Chiddushei Mahari״a and more.
Rabbi Aharon Bichler [1828-1914] was a disciple of the author of the Ktav Sofer and of Rabbi Yehuda Assad, who chose him as his son-in-law. Beginning in 1861 he served as rabbi of Jászberény.
Condition: Fine. Slight tears in the margins of the leaf with no damage to text. Fold marks.

מכתב בכתב יד קדשו של רבי יהודה אסאד רבה של סרדהלי (סערדהאלי) ומגדולי רבני הונגריה, שנשלח לחתנו רבי אהרן ביכלר רבה של יאסבערין, תרכ״א [1861].
מפרט: [2] עמ׳, 17X21 ס״מ. אוטוגרף חתום. מאפיינים יחודיים: במרכז הדף בצדו האחורי ישנה חותמת שעווה אדומה,
מעט שבורה של רבי יהודה אסאד.
תוכן: המכתב נשלח לחתנו: “אהובי חתני תלמידי הותיק וחריף ... ובתי הצנועה הרבנית אשת חבר מרת שרל תחי׳.״ ורובו בדברי תורה.
רקע: רבי יהודה אסאד - מהרי״א אסאד, היה רבה של סרדהלי (סערדהאלי) ומגדולי רבני הונגריה. נולד בשנת תקנ״ז בעיירה אסאד הסמוכה לבודפסט. למד בישיבה אצל רבי מרדכי בנעט, ובתוך תקופה קצרה נתמנה על ידו למסור שיעורים. כשהחתם סופר פגש אותו, התפעל ממנו מאד, ואף פעל שיתקבל כרב בסרדלהי. הוא הקים בה ישיבה שמנתה כ-150 בחורים. היה מחשובי הרבנים והמנהגים הרוחניים של יהדות הונגריה, ונודע גם במאבקו ברפורמים. נפטר בשנת תרכ״ו, וחיבר
שו״ת יהודה יעלה, חידושי מהרי״א ועוד.
רבי אהרן ביכלר [תקפ״ח-תרע״ד] היה תלמידו של בעל ה׳כתב סופר׳ ושל רבי יהודה אסאד שבחר בו כחתן. משנת תרכ״א כיהן כרבה של יאסבערין [יאסבערעני].
