Even though this film is a big budget shark film,
if you compare the plot to classics like Jaws or
Deep blue sea, I felt like the director doesn’t
give the characters enough truly scary situa-
tions. Fear is a big sales point of shark movies.
Megalodon is supposed to be a scary and
dangerous monster, but they made it look just
like a bull chasing a red cape in Spain but change
Chomp On This acts like a normal shark even it supposed to be
the cape to ships. The Megalodon looks and
the biggest and scariest creature in the ocean.
The ads and trailer lead us to believe otherwise.
My recommendation? If you are a shark mov-

with the plot and the lack of really scary scenes.

the sales points for this movie is that the shark is Mega-
lodon, a giant ancient great white shark that is believed
to be extinct, but somehow finds its way up from miles
deep under the ocean. Jason Statham, well known for
his action-thriller rolls, is the main character. Jon Tur-
teltaub directs, known for films like National Treasure.
About 80% of the film takes place in the ocean
of China where Chinese scientists want to discov-
er the place that believe to be another ocean “un-
der” our ocean. They find another ocean like pre-
dicted, but they also find the Megalodon and they
accidently let it came up from miles underwater.
When the scientist’s submarine that went
down to explore the deep breaks down from the
attack of the Meg, they have to beg Jonas Tay-
lor (Jason Statham) to rescue the scientist and
submarine. After some negotiation, Jason real-
izes he has to attempt the recue because the per-
son trapped inside is his ex-wife, who he still loves.
After I watched this film, my personal thoughts
about the film is that it is a decent shark related mov-

out the cinema. Compare to other shark movies, the
Graphics and the settings are visually striking with,
lots of cool shots and camera angles. You can tell
they spend big money on the graphics and produc-
tion. Whether it is the beach scene, the deep-wa-
ter scene, or the underwater laboratory, they nailed
those aspects of filmmaking. Plus, a Hollywood
star like Jason Statham and China’s super star Li-
Ping Ping make the movie even more interesting.
