DEFINITION Catholic character It is not something we get but a moral and spiritual foundation based upon principles, virtues, what a person “is” and their loving relationship with the Lord. A person endowed with a virtuous life, like a beautiful diamond leaving its scratches or mark on other rocks or the persons it touches. It is the fruit of good principles, virtues, and an honorable life lived in truth and holiness. Great traditions like the Church survive and grow through virtuous character both morally and spiritually. Truthfulness is its corner stone and if not formed solidly in infancy and youth will leave a weakened foundation until rebuilt in changes of heart and mind. It is not wealth, fame or fortune that builds the flourishing’s of a world; it is the moral spiritual character enlightened by intellect that gives excellence to man and his civilization.
