personality differences. He encourages us to develop leadership qualities, telling us that leaders should first and foremost be good servants who lead by first doing. “I am a servant to all,” says Swami, holding himself out as the role model. “First be, then do, then see, and then tell.” Leaders demonstrate dedication and intensity in their service. Leaders are selected, not elected in Sai Centers, and there is to be complete agreement among members about the selection. In this atmosphere of love and high ideals, everyone is given the strength and the opportunity to lead a beer life.
Three Wings of the Community
The community is based upon the functioning of three wings: spiritual, education, and service. Participants are educated to do service as a devotional offering to God. Service is done with love and the understanding that all is God. When communities become a means of worshipping and serving God, when individuals work toward developing unity, harmony, and love in the community, then society is strengthened. Concurrently, the individual develops inner strength and unity in thought, word, and deed. This path builds sound character, mature discernment, and an inner peace that is essential if there is to be peace in the world.
