area where Dr. Belkin was waiting with some of the doctors from his clinic. Ramaa was also there and again asked, “How many would like to take a trip to see Sai Baba?” Again, almost unanimously and with great enthusiasm, the group thought it was a good idea. Ramaa again began organizing the trip, and Dr. Belkin wrote a list of possible participants. Dr. Belkin, who evidently had many connections, began talking about ways of geing official permission to take scientists to India. I had come to the Soviet Union looking for a publisher and had found Soviet scientists eager to see Sathya Sai Baba.
Sai Baba’s Reaction
Soon aer my visit to
Russia, I went to Swami to
tell him about the interest
of the Russian scientists.
He did not see me until
the very last second, and
I mean the last second. I
thought for sure he was
disappointed with me
and would never talk to
me again. What had I
done wrong? Yet I knew
to hold on to him, to be
patient and wait. Oh, how
he tests us. Our patience
breaks down in an instant
and we dissolve into tears
and moan, “Oh, Swami,
don’t be too hard on me.
Don’t test me too severely. Smile at me, let me draw near and touch your divine lotus feet.”
Without testing there would be no tasting God. (SSB)
