What moved me upon seeing this lile play was that the woman who was telling about her experience with Swami in real life had quite a disability. She had no arms or legs and was standing on prostheses for legs and used prosthetic arms as well. Yet, here she was, dancing and singing.
Although the disabled woman was acting out a play, in reality she was expressing her great love for Swami and how it was liing her above her own infirmity into the rarefied atmosphere where she was one with Swami’s joy.
Love Transcends Death
Swami has told us again and again, “Only when the mind is immersed in God can it be controlled and transcended.” Only when the mind is rapt in God, is it possible to experience divine love, peace, and perfection no maer what the circumstance in the external world, even when we face death.
Death of a Mother
During a 1999 trip to Prasanthi Nilayam, an interpreter accompanying a Russian group told me of a recent event. A 16-year-old Iranian boy had come to the ashram with his mother. His mother was very ill and was taken to the hospital. One evening, the young man was in his quarters with his teenage roommate. A light bulb blew out, cloaking the room in darkness. Suddenly, the young Iranian boy saw Swami in the room. Excitedly, he asked his roommate if he also could see Swami. The roommate could not. With motherly love, Swami told the Iranian boy that his mother had just died in the hospital. Swami himself had come to assure the boy that his mother was now with Swami and was happy. Swami would now take care of the boy as well. Swami then hugged the boy and disappeared.
Shortly thereaer there was a knock at the door. It was a nurse from the hospital coming to tell the boy that his mother had passed on. She was surprised to see that he was fully aware of the situation and not distressed at all.
