The next time Phyllis was with Swami, he turned to her and asked, “What about the hijacking?” Swami said it almost as if it were like a play. Then Swami mimicked her English accent and called out, “Baba! Baba! Baba!” like she had done on the plane.
Years passed and Phyllis had come to Swami many times during those years. Eight years aer the incident, while Phyllis and Sidney were with Swami, Baba again brought up the hijacking incident. He recounted the conversation that Phyllis and Sidney had during the incident when Sidney said that he thought that they were going to die, that he had had a good long life, and that they should prepare themselves for death. Phyllis, on the other hand, had believed strongly otherwise and had said, “No! We’re not going to die!”
Swami related this conversation to them and then said, “The reason the plane was saved is because it was filled with my love.” With this, Phyllis had final confirmation that she had stepped aside and it was through her that Swami had filled the plane with love that protected her and saved everyone on board.
Offering Everything
While siing on the porch of the temple watching Swami move among devotees, giving with tireless energy, I noticed a doctor friend siing nearby. We greeted one another, and he told me he had been siing on the porch for a year without geing even a glance from Swami. My friend said that the pain was excruciating. The ignoring was so total he said that “it is like being in a freezer filled with liquid ice.”
One day I saw Swami stop by my friend and take his note. Later I asked him what had happened. He said, “Aer waiting so long for Swami’s aention, and aer my recent 60th birthday, I realized that there is nothing else for me but to hold as tight as I can to Swami. I have completed my responsibility with family and profession and now I want to offer everything to him. I wrote this note and did spiritual hari-kari. I sacrificed
