was not accepted because of a lack of jobs due to major changes in the health field. She then heard from no one else about a job in management. Her expectations and ego came down a notch, and she had to accept a temporary secretarial job.
Aer a year of struggling through a purifying lesson in humility, Judy decided to return to Cornell for further studies in management. Her first master’s degree was in health administration, and she decided to work toward a second master’s degree in industrial and labor relations management. During this period, the family continued to make regular visits to Swami.
In a previous interview, Swami turned to me and asked an unusual question, “Sandweiss would like a son?”
Through the laughter that erupted all around, I answered, “Oh, Swami, I am very happy with our four wonderful daughters, and I don’t want any more children.”
Smilingly, Swami said, “El sol, el sol.”
We wondered what Swami’s words meant, other than, of course, the literal translation of “the sun” from Spanish. Time, as it oen does, would shed sunlight on this most puzzling remark.
Meanwhile, Judy practiced patience and forbearance. She finished the two-year course with good grades and, in the end, was more mature and self-directed. A very fine computer company, Sun Microsystems, then quickly hired her. At that point, our whole family understood the connection between Swami’s el sol and Sun Microsystems. Judy now had a wonderful job close to home on the West Coast that would allow her to grow and develop management skills within an excellent business environment.
Then came another unusual turn of events. Judy’s superiors at work knew of her travels to India and asked her to work in their office in Bangalore, considered the Silicon Valley of India. It was only a few miles from Swami’s ashram. Soon thereaer, we had an opportunity to ask Swami if Judy should take this
