including their offshoots of lust, anger, pride, greed, and hatred, when we do give up these aachments, we are free to experience the perfect presence of nothing. It is in this state of nothingness that we find Swami’s love, which is everything.
Once Swami said, “Everything is coming out of Sandweiss, and when everything comes out, Swami jumps in.” To make the point sweeter, Swami emphasized it by poking his fingers into my shirt pocket, showing me how he will jump into it.
Transmitting Wisdom through Silence
Swami says that in total silence all knowledge can be transmitted to us. There is the story of Dakshinamurthi, a young, beautiful, and radiant form of Lord Shiva. Three great renunciates (sadhus) were walking in the forest and came upon Lord Shiva in the form of the young Dakshinamurthi, siing cross-legged and in deep meditation. He was exquisitely breathtaking in His beauty and effulgence, eternal wisdom emanating from deep within. The holy men immediately seated themselves in cross-legged posture, falling into a state of deep meditation in the presence of the supreme. In total silence, all knowledge was transmied to the renunciates from the silent emptiness of the nothingness
of Dakshinamurthi.
Remembering Direct Experiences
Spiritual experiences are filled with many levels of meaning. Remembering these events open us to an ever deepening unfolding of insight and inspiration. So it is with this next experience with Swami.
