the false belief that this “I-body” is the doer. In the course of this adventure, I more deeply experience that God is the doer and that peace and contentment come from surrendering to and accepting His will.
Wanting to Do a Film about Sai Baba
What joy there is in doing a project directly connected to Swami! Even knowing that part of the process might be painful, as our heart is being cleansed and the ego is being challenged, there is also the bliss of feeling close to Swami. There is a magical dream-like quality when interacting with Swami. Unusual coincidences, insights, and an abundance of laughter are part of a quickened movement in the spiritual life. Through moments of both ecstasy and turmoil, we learn deep spiritual lessons about surrendering to Swami’s love and his unfathomable glory.
Friends and I wrote a proposal for a film. We considered orientation, audience, crew, and costs. Then I took the proposal to Swami and was encouraged to find that he thought it was a good idea. I was excited, but worried about the expense, which would be substantial and beyond my means. Knowing that Swami wants us to have as lile to do with money as possible, that it would not be correct to ask anyone for financial help, I just put the project on the back burner and waited.
An Unexpected Film Proposal
About two years later, in late 1991, I received a letter from Dutch filmmaker Philip Engelen. He had just finished a documentary on the life of the great Swiss psychiatrist Carl Jung. His interest was sparked to do a film on Swami and he was hoping that I could provide him with relevant information. I wondered if this coincidental contact was related to my interest in working on a film about Swami.
I followed up with a phone call to Philip. He expressed his concern about the deterioration of morality in the world and
