hear only good. These hands should not work for evil, they should work only for good. This body should not be evil, it should be good.” Then sweetly and soly, while referring to the ring, Swami said to the man, “Do you want something that doesn’t break?” The young man said, “Yes, yes.” Swami blew on the ring and changed a silver-like metal into gold. By this time, the young man was weeping. In fact, all of us were brought to tears by Swami’s sweet application of love.
Jung had been interested in alchemy, the transformation of common metal into gold. Here, in front of Philip, Swami was showing how divine will and love could transform anything into gold; the power came from love. The love that brought hope and meaning to this man was the same love that could change common metal into gold and could create matter from nothing. I could see that Philip was deeply moved by this interchange.
Philip, Louise, Sharon, and I were then invited into a smaller interview. Swami asked Philip what he wanted. “I am a filmmaker and would like to do a film about you, Swami,” Philip said. Baba replied, “I am not an actor, I am the director.” Then aer a short pause he added with a playful smile, “And I am also an actor.”
Swami then tapped me on the cheek and said, “Talk.” I replied, “Swami, Philip wants to do a film on your service and educational programs.”
Swami said, “Good idea.” Before we knew it, the door had opened. Aer that moment, progress developed quickly. Swami gave permission and said that we could film in May at his college’s summer school and confirmed that I could help. I asked who would be our contact man, and Swami mentioned Colonel Jogarao, a longtime devotee who had supervised some construction at the ashram and was close to Swami.
When the interview was finished, I had to pinch myself to make sure that this was not a dream; so quickly had such a large-scale project been put into place. Swami gave permission
