“Inside the house there were grandparents, parents, two boys, and three girls. The children were ages 5 to 13. I sat in a chair, and the family gathered around each other. The mother was suspicious and asked why I was there. I felt comfortable and simply said that I wanted to tell them about Swami’s love. She seemed fine with that so I began talking to them. I told them that Swami loves them and wants them to know how to lead a good life. The outer world aracts us and makes us think that acquiring material things and having power and position is important. Swami tells us that lasting peace and happiness won’t come from material things; they come from the heart. It is love in the heart that is central. He tells us that love makes life meaningful. Being loving and caring with each other, being good people, and upholding morality will bring peace and happiness. Love makes life precious.
“As I talked, their faces became so, innocent, and full of love, like the faces of devotees when singing with love to Swami. \[Bill had observed this devotion at a Sai Baba Center.\] The young children understood what I was saying and were entranced. I talked with simple words; they were fascinated and wanted to hear more about Swami’s message. I was there for about ten minutes when I felt that I should move on, that Swami wanted me to go to the next island.
“I walked out of the house to the water’s edge and hesitated. The water was very deep, and I thought I would sink. Although I could not see him, I knew that Swami was near. In my heart I said, ‘Swami, how am I to get to the other island? The water is two and a half miles deep here.’ Then I heard him respond, ‘When you walk out, you will find a wall of support under your feet. Sometimes the water will be no more than over your ankles, sometimes it will be up to your waist, and it will not get any higher. You will be able to walk to the next island.’ I stepped gingerly out into the water, and just as Swami said, I felt the underwater support, and I began walking on water! People from the shore watched with amazement. I felt safe and steady. Then I awoke. I felt so close to Swami, and the feeling has not stopped since.
