my name called. I was sitting behind a pillar and couldn’t see that it was Swami who was calling me. People around motioned me to go. I found Swami smiling and standing in the midst of his young students. Then unexpectedly he pointed to one and asked me if this was the doctor that I wanted to invite to the USA. I was puzzled by this interchange, replied that he was not the person, and then returned to my seat behind the pillar.
Aer thinking a moment, I believed Swami to be saying, “Do you think that I was mistaking this young, inexperienced boy for your accomplished doctor friend? And further, do you really think that it was the doctor who fundamentally helped your daughter? No, I asked about the student to show how foolish it is to look for ultimate answers in the external world. You have been with me long enough to know that it is I (the transcendental Swami beyond the body) behind all events. I am the one who is always providing and protecting. Don’t look for ultimate answers in the outer world. Look for me in your own heart.”
I recalled a statement in the Bhagavad Gita made by Lord Krishna.
Fools pass blindly by the place of my dwelling Here in the human form,
And of my majesty know nothing at all,
Who am the Lord, their Soul.
