Students who study English as a second language should develop four skills such as,
speaking, listening, reading and writing. This essay will focus on feedback on academic
writing. According to (Wingate, 2010) “the result after a research indicated that the students
improved in the areas previously criticized” those areas were focus on the content, the
spelling, coherence and cohesion.
Particularly, writing feedback help to students to write e-mails, letters and different
kind of texts in a better way. Ursula Wingate indicated that after giving feedback some
students made the same mistakes. Because of they did not review their feedback comments.
Also, (Lea, 2006)mentioned that “feedback helps to writers to understand writing in today’s
higher education than traditional models if they pay more attention to their own mistakes.
Finally, giving feedback on writing could be helpful to develop and to improve
writing skills. It will be useful just if students check the feedback giving by their teachers.
This way they could apply the same strategy on other subjects. As a result they will acquire
a lot of knowledge of English as a second language.
