“Now, my dear, that can’t be true. No one in this world is alone. If you tell me “Murder, sir. Murder of a murderer. Mr. Vincent was killed. How, we do
what it is you are exactly feeling, maybe I can help you. I know doctor of psych, not know. It turns out that Mary Vincent died not by plague, but her own
a renowned one. He will help you.” Garnier said in a comforting tone, trying to father, Mr. Vincent, killed her. Stabbed. She tried to find out about the

make her comfortable. She smiled a little, and moved further towards him. As dark businesses of her father. Poor girl. Pity, what happens to people
she did so, Garnier saw her complete face. She was a remarkable beauty. Her who try to be good citizens of the country.” He said. As Garnier turned
black eyes were soft as feathers, her skin of a wonderful fair complexion. She
stared meaningfully at Garnier, as if trying to study him. to leave, his eyes rested on a picture titled ‘Mary Vincent’. It was the

“Thank you. That means a lot to me. But really, no one can help me. I am girl from last night.
extremely grateful to your kind gestures, Mr. Garnier, but I really am alone.”
She said, still slightly smiling. By Jahnavi Dande(x)
“You know my name?” Garnier said, surprised.

“Names are mere titles, Mr. Garnier, mere tips of identity. What really matters
is the heart, a big one as you’ve got. You should really be proud, there are not
many like you. Most men in this world are just cogs, who think of people to be
just puppets, and nothing more. Who think of them to be anomalies in their

impure acts.” She said, a slight fire rising in her eyes. During this course, she
had moved even closer to Garnier, and what he now saw was astonishing. On
the girl’s beautiful white dress, right in the middle, was a huge red spot and a
slit, as if she had been stabbed.

“Good heavens! My lady, you are hurt! Come with me, I will take you to a doctor
friend of mine. You need to get that wound sewn up as soon as possible!” he
                   said, looking around.
“I am fine, Mr. Garnier. You need not worry. Yes, I was hurt, but it was a long

                   time ago.”
“Then why do you still wear that dress?” Garnier said, a little frown on rise on
                   his forehead.
“It reminds me that if you let your mind into the dark, it can make you do

                   horrible things.” She answered.
“Well, then tell me how I can help you, please, I insist.” Garnier said.
“I already told you. It is too late to help me, Mr. Garnier. The damage is already
done. But do not lose hope. The world needs men like you to cover the

darkness.” And with that, she gently walked across the aisle to the Vincent
mansion. Garnier hurried home as quickly as he could, her last words ringing in
his ears. He could not sleep all night. The next morning, he got ready and
hurried to the Vincent mansion, only to find strollers coming out.

“What happened?” Garnier asked to a nearby policeman.
