THE GREEDY KING
written by Joseph Banda, illus- trated by Annette Schneider
“Once upon a time there lived a very strong king at Kapando called Mambo. His name meant King Lion. He was the king of all the beasts and people in the area. When there was no rain, all the animals came to him with gifts which he offered to God. Wherever he passed, other animals and people greeted him with respect. Many animals and people did not love him very much because he was sometimes misusing his powers. He demanded gifts which had to be given. If one failed to do so, he was sent out of the village.”
