various artists - select cuts 01
gosh recordings zone rating - 9/10
Gosh Recordings have compiled and released what they consider to be some of the choicest and freshest “Select Cuts” that have been produced by rising stars and after a good few listens I am happy to report that the tunes that they have picked are indeed a very good bunch of dancefloor destroyers.
There are 10 tracks and the main vibe is Tech House all the way. It all kicks off with Romain Pellegrin’s ‘Baila’ which is a dark chugger with stereo flanged female vocals over a funk laden backbeat which features bleeps risers and vocal pads. This is deftly followed by Manesix’s ‘All Night (we go)’ which features a number of vocal samples about getting high and partying to house music all night, over another banging bass heavy backbeat, this time with added acidic stabs.
Things then take a darker turn with Deepy Dee’s ‘Beat Is Fresh’ which is more tribal than the first two but is still a great track with sci-fi risers, vocal samples and old school sounding synth riffs. This is followed by Shenga’s ‘Stacked’ which extols the virtues of “House music all night long” which works for me every time.
I am not going describe every track as hopefully by now you get the picture. This release is jam packed with 10 quality tracks from new talent in a Tech House vein with a bit of Deep Tribal and Jackin all thrown in for good measure and I have to say that with these feel good ingredients, it is a recipe for success.
I don’t have any particular favourite and I can see myself playing all of the tracks at some point at forthcoming gigs so this package needs applause for that, and the fact that it is “all killer, no filler.’ It is great to see a label taking a chance and putting out ten tunes from up and comers and I can say with conviction that their judgement is spot on here!
