GERMAN REPORT....
Bringing you review's & a look into what’s hot on the German electronic scene....
secluded
Secluded, a new alias created at the beginning of 2012 by Sleaze Records label boss Hans Bouffmyhre. With the aim to explore a new techno vibe, inspired by sounds from Berlin & Detroit, Secluded productions are characterised with a deep pounding beat, softened by dubby synth passages and soundscapes, creating a gloomy atmosphere. With vinyl releases already out on EarToGround & Sleaze Records, including remixes by Jonas Kopp, Markus Suckut, Mike Dehnert & Shifted, big things are expected for the future!
First can you let us know things like your real name, age and hometown?
My real name is Stephen Gorrie, I'm 28 years old and I'm from Glasgow in Scotland.
Secluded is a new project of you. Under which pseudonyms you've already published music. Whom do you like to teamup with?
So far I've only released music under 2 different names, Hans Bouffmyhre & Secluded. For collabs I often hook up
with Kyle Geiger, Flug and my brother Lex Gorrie. It's been fun sharing ideas with these guys and producing some big tracks along the way.
What can you tell us about your studio? What Hard & Software do you use and why?
Last year I bought an old flat in my home town and completely refurbished it into my new studio. It was a great project to take on, but did take up a lot of time! Software wise I use both Reason & Ableton. For hardware I have just a few pieces. I have the Arturia Microbrute synth, which is great for making some nice raw sounds. I also have the new Roland TR-8, which is so much fun to play with and is great for using in live sets too. Then I have the full Korg Volca series, which are really fun to play with and good bang for your buck.
You perform as DJ and “live PA”. How do you define "live act" and "Live PA" and what are the specific differences?
When I'm playing as a DJ I use 3 Pioneer
CDJ's with USB sticks. This works well for me because I literally have thousands of tracks at my finger tips. It's great to have the freedom to play whatever you want in a DJ set, so it's less limited than playing live.
When I play live I use Ableton with a few controllers and my TR-8. Every track is cut up into 8 loops. 1 for kick, bass, synth, chords, hats, rides, claps & fx. It's been fun to do and always goes down well at gigs. Nice to be able to offer an alternative to a DJ set!
Do you want to give us some more information?
Yes please! Ive recently released my first Secluded album 'Distant Memories' on a new Secluded label. It was released on 12th October, so make sure you check it out. The album remix EP comes out in December, featuring excellent remixes my Reeko, Jonas Kopp, Manzel and myself.
