Tommy Vicari JNR – Beta Stop Thinking EP [Lowwaxx] [House]
Hailing from Sheffield, Tommy Vicari has garnered a string of successful releases on a number of well renowned labels, and this release continues that trend. A great 3 track EP on Lowwaxx, it’s full of character and individuality. Title track “Beta Stop Thinking” is all about the atmosphere, with deep sub bass and crunchy glitched percussion sits on top of solid drums. A great dancefloor track.
On the flip we have “Best way” which goes on a more deep progressive direction, with house style drums and a more traditional structure, but still with the trademark atmospherics and a bouncy bassline that will get people moving for sure. Finally Rich Nxt is on the remix of “Best way” and goes for a tech house feel, utilising the bassline of the original, whilst making it his own, and toughening up the drums and creating a solid drop.

CJ Jeff – Old man in a cloud of dust [Kling Klong] [Tech-house]
Making waves in his native Greece, CJ Jeff is keeping busy in the studio and returns to Martin Eyerer and Reiner Reichold’s Kling Klong label again. “In a cloud of dust” is a vocal led tech house banger. With the lead vocal hook repeated and slowly filtered in with the drums holding things together nicely. Before the drop the lead synth line is slowly introduced before the break and it is allowed to take centre stage and the energy is released on the dancefloor. The Gorge remix of “In a cloud of dust” is a stripped down tech number with rolling 909 drums and a solid bassline with enough groove in it to keep it focused on the floor. Finally “Old Man” is a taken on a bit of a deeper direction with a great vocal sample slowly being brought in and laid over the drums and deep chords, over the build up, before things are stripped back to the riff and drums. Great couple of originals and a solid remix. https://www.deejay.de/Cj_Jeff_Old_Man_In_A_Cloud_Of_Dust_KLING122_Vinyl__284866

Various Artists – Bad Barbie Tools Vol1
[Bad Barbie records] [House & Techno]
Here we have another great compilation from Toby Holguin and Aldo Cadiz’s Bad Barbie records is a great 4 track EP showcasing some of the great sounds they are coming out with at the moment. Up first is Sander Ellerman with “Far away from home”, a blissful minimal techno number packed with atmospheric synths and textures. Next is “Whateveristic” by Dubphone, which is a darker track than the opener, with a brooding rolling bassline, oppressive drums and breathy vocals layered together perfectly.
“Miraj” by Herck brings up the vibe again with a bouncy bassline and soothing chords, whilst the drums have enough swing and sparkle to keep things rolling nicely. And when the warm luscious pads are brought in it takes things to another level. Finally “Peste tont”by “Xandru closes things up with a rolling tech track that will guarantee to get the feet moving and the hands in the air. A really great all round EP and something for everyone.

Viceversa – Threethreeone/threethreetwo [Viceversa] [House & Techno]
With his first three releases seeing support from the likes of Raresh, Peter Inspirescu and Ricardo Villalobos, the latest release from
Viceversa has a lot to live upto. Thankfully it’s another great 2 track EP full of subtle and interesting textures. First up “Threethreeone”. Its foundation is solid techy drums before layers of synth pads and chords are placed carefully on top of each other, each one having its own place in the track, before the chord stabs are brought in to create energy and keep things rolling. Secondly “Threethreetwo” takes the energy level up a notch with snappy tech house drums and filtered chord stabs and a undulating synth being the basis of the track. Hi hats and shuffling snare drums keep the focus firmly on the dancefloor. Great stuff, a nice varied 2 track EP.

Various Artists – Panick 02 [Panick Panick!] [House & Techno]
Second in a series of compilations from Italian imprint Panick Panick! First up German producer Franky Greiner provides “Modol 02”, a
moody house number with shuffling percussion, and a haunting almost guitar like lead riff over the top of atmospheric synths and samples, with an oppressive vocal style synth being brought in after the break.
Next up is the Berlin based live act Wareika with “Our Hologram” which is indicative of their style of wonky and minimal techno. Using as few elements as possible to create a rich in emotion track, with a bouncy bassline and emotive synth lines on the top.
Finally Noha and Alex Tea round things off with “Thanks for nothing” which again ramps up the energy. With a deep tech feel to it with stabbing lead chords and a rising riff that gives a sense of urgency but also giving the track an almost jazzy feel, all sitting nicely on top of the chunky bassline. https://www.deejay.de/Va_Franky_Greiner_Wareika_Noha_%26_Alex_Tea_Panick_02_PP02_Vinyl__273457
