SimonSinfiEld Krafted Chill Vol 2.
B eavering away in the depths of the New Forest, Simon Sinfield has
been producing for many years. Not only dance music, but engineering and producing for
many bands over the years and for many of the major labels. He’s A & R for Krafted and also runs the Krafted online station, as well as having numerous releases across many labels. With the forthcoming Chill Album Volume 2 set for release early part of this summer, we caught up with Simon after the completion of the album.
Congratulations on Krafted Chill Vol 2. Was it easier to put the second album together?
I thought it would be easier, but it was actually more of a challenge. The reviews for Vol 1. were really good, but we knew where we could improve and continue to develop the Krafted Chill style. Dance music and electronica is really important to us, but introducing acoustic productions and developing Krafted Chill is a real focus.
You were involved with the production of all
of the tracks on Vol 1. Is it the same again for Vol 2.?
Thankfully no. I did have production credits for every single track on Vol 1., but this time it was not possible with my other recording commitments. Saying that, most of the tracks passed through the doors of my recording studio Cuckoo Hill. Many of the Krafted releases are mastered at Cuckoo Hill and it was great to be able to use the facilities, rather than move from studio to studio.
Do you have a favourite track from the album?
That's impossible to answer. I am thrilled to be able to bring Sanny X to the label and introduce new artists, such as Itay Dailes, Solar Wolf and the amazing Hannah Elkins!
You've worked with Sanny X before?
I've been very lucky to have worked with Sanny on a few tracks. He produced the chill version of his single 'Sax Magic' just for this album. It's truly brilliant! The sax is divine and the guitar work from Funky Spacer is really slick too.
Will there be a Vol 3.?
Most definitely. Krafted are 100% committed to this project and the feedback has been amazing, so why wouldn't we?
So what can we expect from the follow up?
We began this journey with a clear idea of the vibe we wanted and then securing the very best production talent. Vol 1 was pretty definitive for that and I'd like to think that we're showing a refinement of that style. We want to make you smile, make you sit up and listen, and of course help you relax by the infinity pool!
How do you relax?
I listen to Krafted Chill of course! Haha! Music, sunshine and a large Margarita would be pretty perfect!
Who would be on your wish list to have on future Krafted Chill albums?
Oh! it's a huge list!
We've just signed up a
track called 'Be Strong'
by Marc Barnes
featuring the wonderful
Angie Brown (available now on Krafted Digital). It'd be awesome to show a different side to Angie's vocal ability with a laid-back track. I love working with new artists of any genre, so that prospect is always exciting and would be a must on any wish list for future albums.
What's next for your own solo material?
I've a new single called 'Winter Sun' on the way, plus another collaboration with Krafted label boss Paul Sawyer. We've included our track 'Atrium' on this album. I've also got a few new releases under my alias The Cloudshapers, including a remix of 'Don't Say No', which was a production with Paul and the very talented Vicky Barents last year.
