Breakfast the next morning with Paul, Rex and myself was a bit strained. No one wanted to put their foot in it and bring up the previous night. Penny stayed in bed. Paul set out a tray with a hearty breakfast and a rose on it for Seki. Rex smiled and promised that he would do the same for me when the time came.
Jenny arrived in for her shift about 12, so I decided it was time to go.
‘I booked dinner in an Italian restaurant in town at 8 for us’, Rex told me before I left, ‘don’t take the car I’ll call for you by taxi’.
‘That sounds lovely, thanks’, I gave him a long kiss, he could be so thoughtful.
There was a message from the gallery to say they had sold my paintings and had a client who wanted more of the Irish landscapes. I was elated my camera was jammed with scenes of Dublin from our visit although Penny’s face was in almost all of them I thought smiling.
The restaurant was amazing, and Rex looked so handsome in his suit, he really went all out. I was glad I’d worn my silk dress. It was the most romantic night I’d had in a long time. The food was wonderful and the company even better. I was suddenly overwhelmed with love for Rex. He was really proving himself to be so mature and such a gentleman. I was so impressed that he had gone to so much trouble and I felt proud to be on his arm. There were other couples there, young and old all gazing into each other’s eyes yes, the room was full of love.
‘Honey?’ I realized Rex was trying to get my attention. ‘Sorry darling, just thinking’, I said apologising.
