The house warming was a great success, we held it the week before Christmas from 6pm, all were welcome, and it was lovely to see so many good friends there for a drink or some nibbles wishing us luck and whetting the babies head. It went on until the early hours of the morning with Jenny appearing around 10pm as she had volunteered to babysit the babies in the B&B. Penny then took over to let her enjoy the rest of the night. Paul and Sherry danced and laughed and chatted to their hearts content for most of the night but that soon changed when Jenny decided to try her luck with Paul. I noticed an altercation between the three of them, which resulted in Paul leaving and Sherry upset storming off. I followed her into my bedroom.
‘What happened’? I asked.
‘That little madam, Jenny’ she began through a flow of tears, ‘made a pass at Paul right in front of me’.
‘How did he react’? I asked not entirely surprised.
‘He sees no harm in her, but Amber she is trying to take him away from me’, sobbing loudly now. She was very upset but also quite a bit drunk.
‘Sherry love, take no notice of her she is just a kid’, I advised as I guided her to the guest room, she cooperated laying on the bed sniffling. I placed a quilt over her and stayed until she was sound asleep before closing the door and going to join Rex in bidding the last of the guests’ goodnight.
Sherry had gone home sometime between me putting her to bed and Rex getting up to get a restless Lilli at 7am. She must have taken a taxi to the cottage as her car was still parked at the entrance to the village green. Rex made us breakfast in bed, so while eating our Canadian pancakes we sorted through the box of suggested names for the barn, 50 suggestions in all. We picked out three of our favorites; The Rambling Barn,
