make a meringue for dessert I thought. I put a nice bottle of Prosecco into the fridge to chill as I went upstairs to shower and dress.
I didn’t think it would be so hard to pick out an outfit. After trying on almost everything I owed I still couldn’t decide, I felt like a teenage girl again going on a first date with the most popular boy in the school, I had butterflies in my stomach. I wanted to wear something new something I hadn’t worn with Tony.
I finally chose a long halter neck linen dress in pale blue. It was early September and there was still a chill in the air, so I lit the log fire to make it cozy and to add a little romance dotting some candles around the room too for extra ambiance. I wanted to pick out some music for the background trying to balance fun with romance. I knew he liked rock music, so I had already picked out a couple of CD’s in my head that he might like.
The doorbell chimed sending a shiver down my spine panicking I just put the nearest disc into the player, pressed play and glanced in the floor length mirror as The Doors sang ‘come on baby light my fire’, I went to answer the door.
I liked what I saw I hoped he did too and bringing myself in close to him I kissed him. He lifted me off my feet and kissed me hard in return.
The meal was a great success thankfully, he complemented me on my choice of drink and of course his favourite, steak.
‘That was cooked to perfection’, he was rubbing his firm stomach.
‘Do you like the music?’ I asked unsure if I should perhaps change to something a little more romantic.
‘Very good choice, my mother played this album all the time it was her favourite. It obviously influenced me, I have to say I love it too’, he confessed.
