What was the reason for starting the label?
If i'm honest its always something I've wanted to do. A couple of friends of mine who run a trance events and a label already, approached me about starting a progressive label for them and it was the final push I needed. The hardest thing was thinking of a name, I'm a strong believer of if it's good music it's good music, what ever the genre that its all relative, hence e=mc2 as its Einstein's theory of relativity.
How would you describe the labels sound?
I'm a massive fan of progressive in all forms, all the way from house to trance. That's what I wanted for the label so its all the variants of progressive with influences of house, techno and trance, just quality club music, chunky and melodic. Any notable influences? - Label wise my influences are Anjunadeep, Colorize, Selador, Songspire, LNOE and Bedrock. As you can see quite varied styles, musically i'd say artists like Sasha, Jody Wisternoff, Dezza, Dosem, Dave Seaman and Above & Beyond.
What would you say you look for when signing an artist?
Well it doesn't matter if your established or up and coming. I'm after someone exciting with a love of melodic progressive music. I have signed some really big names already but am excited to find some artists who are just breaking through with their first productions too. How do you feel the releases have been received so far? - I've been overwhelmed at the support I've received so far with DJ support and plays from the likes of Nick Muir, Gai Barone, Paul Thomas (all of which have repeatedly played tracks), Max Graham, The Stupid Experts, Kiz Pattison, Kris O' Neil, Guy Mantzur, Dylhen, Ian Dillon, Paul Sawyer, Mike Koglin, Medway and Matan Caspi to name a few. Not bad for the 2 releases so far.
Any notable releases?
The first release was from Holland's Pako. I've been a fan of him ever since his releases on Bedrock, and he sent over a stack of awesome demos under his Creosol alias. I picked my two favourites and launched with an awesome double header Krakmat/Donker Ding, which had good support for our debut. The most recent release was from the brilliant DJ SAN, SAN is one half of the legendary Solid Sessions who had that monster hit Janerio back in 2000. He's had more than 3,000,000 sales worldwide and I was stoked to sign his track 'Substance Carrier'. Even though its only my second release it broke into the beatport top 100 progressive and had massive support from the likes of Nick Muir and Gai Barone. Ive got a very strong track from Paul Sawyer, and another from the Stupid Experts coming. I'm also really excited That Solid Sessions have reformed and they've signed an absolute Beauty to the label so watch this space.
Any tips for upcoming artists?
All I can say is obviously be yourself and be persistant. Your hard work will pay off eventually. You need to be hard skinned and be prepared for knockbacks, it's not personal. Just because your first choice doesn't want to sign, someone else will. Most of all just enjoy what you do after all, as thats what its all about!
How do you see the world of dance music evolving in the next few years?
Thats a hard one, especially with whats going on in the world at the moment. I think more and more people are going to move away from DJing and go more towards the live shows. There are so many talented producers coming through that are great live performers. Which ever way it goes let's just enjoy the ride. Keep safe Everyone!
