Tell us about your musical development in the last year or so.
I think I've come on in leaps and bounds the last year or so, my productivity has soared and I don't tinker or procrastinate too much. I find it difficult to stay in any one genre and quite often all my influences past and present seem to emerge, often in the same track. I like to explore all sorts of musical genres, styles and sounds.
What D.A.W. are you using?
I use two currently - my primary is Presonus Studio One. I love it - it is a very well thought out workflow, and it works for me. I've only scratched
the surface in its potential. I also use Acoustica Mixcraft, which is again a great workflow. Not such a good user interface though - I have been using it primarily for some of the bootlegs I have put together this year!
Tell us about some artists who are supporting your music.
Nick Warren has constantly supported my music both up and downtempo styles, as has Tripswitch. Hernan has been kind enough to feature my tracks in his Resident podcasts as well as on Sudbeat, and of course Amber Long, Robert Mason and Modern Agenda has been so nurturing to me as an artist, really helped me grow, as well as Brent Lawson from Pro B Tech, John Johnson from ICONYC and DJ Samer from Pangea.
Let’s focus on one of your latest EP soon to release “ Wake Me Before I Drift” on Droid9. What is the inspiration behind it?
Titles often have no meaning other than the first phrase that comes into my head when I am setting out to write a track. It could be from a movie, or a phrase I heard or influenced by events during the day. I dunno - I must have been dead tired when I came up with this one.
What made it the right home for this collection of music?
I met Droid9 head honcho, Jerry Chiu at ADE last year - such a chilled, passionate fella. We always seemed to bump into each other several times a day all over the city, so I chose this track given the title might be appropriate - there's not much sleep to be had during ADE that's for sure!
The EP has also remixes by K. Loveski, MXV and Gavin Easby. How do you feel about them?
They've all done a really good job - I requested K. Loveski, as I love his sound and productions. Jerry chose the others, and everyone brought their A game.
How would you describe them?
Brilliant. Period. It's always exciting to see what people do with your source material.
Do you prefer writing originals or
doing remixes?
I love both. In fact remixes are a great way of unblocking the creative process when making originals. Just hearing other people's parts or vocals puts you elsewhere, and outside of your usual self.
labels would you like to work with?
Renaissance, Bedrock, Selador, onedotsixtwo, 4AD would be nice.
What else can we expect from you in 2020?
Much more music has been signed and will be released this year (see below) I have an original album finished which is broad spectrum electronica, not just aimed at the dancefloor. Oh, and when this lockdown is over, there's gonna be a huge party with Origin presents and at ADE!!
Any releases or special dates we should be looking out for?
EP with Chris Cargo's label, If You Wait, Remixes and Original on Droid9, Remixes and Original on Dynamica (one with a new collaborator - tech and hardware wizard Julius, 2 EPs on Mirabilis (one with Julius), EP on Pro B Tech, EP on Wizarding Wolf, EP on Tarnished Tracks, EP on Astir, Track on Balkan United compilation, Track on Emotional Content compilation, EP on Pangea and a Remix on Plethora!!
Name five tracks that influenced you growing up?
Cabaret Voltaire - Nag Nag Nag, Kraftwerk - Trans Europe Express, Joy Division - Dead Souls, This Mortal Coil - Song To The Siren, Human League and Dignity of Labour Part 3.
Apart from music, what makes you happy?
My family, photography, design, my friends, my cat, my dog. It's music mainly though!
