I have been a fan of certain products of Soundiron for a while. So when I saw the Hyperion Strings Kontakt library I knew this was something I needed to check out. When you open the library you're treated to 8 Violins, 6 Violas, 5 Cellos and 4 Double Basses and an Ensemble. You can select a variety of different articulations including Sustains, Spiccatos, Crescendos, Pizzicatos, Staccatos, Pizzicatos, Decrescendos, Swells, and more.
The Ensemble preset comes with an additional Ensemble mixer panel, which allows finer controls to enable or disable various sections, set pan, volumes positions and key ranges to taste with a nice visual representation to make things even simpler. The Legato sections in this are truely remarkable I love the Gliss mode which just adds that realistic touch that is lacking in some string libraries. A great choice here by Soundiron is the sound is quite dry and tight without using the reverb which I found pleasing.
Which brings me to the next thing that really grabbed my attention, the Space section and the versatility of the reverbs.
It has 119 different convolution reverb choices which is an absolute dream for a sound designer with so much atmospheric and ambient possibilities at your fingertips.
The Effects section comprises of filter, compressor and equalizer which gives you a wide range of sound design tools to help mould the sound to your liking.
Next up we have the Arpeggiator, now I tend not to use these very much but I did have a lot of fun playing with this and it also has some nice presets in case you're lacking inspiration especially with the Trill mode.
So my final thought is Hyperion Strings something that I would use in my future compositions? The answer is a most resounding YES!!!
It is without a doubt a standout product with many distinct features and characteristics that I think any composer would admire. I would probably go out on a limb and say this would be my new go to library for strings and even delve deeper into that Arpeggiator.
All in all a brilliant library and a must have for any composer or sound design enthusiasts. Top marks for the Space Section & Arpeggiator. Keep them coming Soundiron.
