Judgment Enforcement – The Step-by-Step Course
4. Your Other Research: The Courthouse
Every business requires research. Your new Judgment Enforcement business does too.
The good news is that you don’t have to put out $300K to start a new restaurant, or even
more than that to start a Lube and Tune place. But people who were successful in those
businesses all did their own research first. They learned how to get their customers,
they’ve learned which laws apply to them, and they’ve learned how to operate their new
company smoothly. You will be doing research, too. Research is a key to success in every
business.
This includes your legal research. You’ll be doing this on Google, Google Scholar, and
at the local law library. You’ll be saving time and frustration while increasing your
knowledge.
MORE HOMEWORK: (YES, IT NEVER
STOPS)
This is a big step. Schedule your time so
that you can visit a courthouse near you.
Do it.
My first trip to the court house was confusing and frustrating. Yours will be too—so
expect it. And get over it. Here are some pointers to smooth out your first trip.
Goal 1: Learn how the court’s filing system is set up
A lot of information is on computer at the courthouse. However, some of the cases may
still be in actual case file folders.
✓ What cases, if any are on the court computer?
✓ What cases aren’t on the computer? Ask the clerks at the court. Every state and
county is a little different.
✓ Where are the older files are kept?
