Judgment Enforcement – The Step-by-Step Course

✓ I recommend against getting a regular USPS postal box when starting out.

Instead, try a private place, something like The UPS Store or Postal Annex.

I prefer these types because they accept Federal Express and UPS packages. Regular
Post Office boxes do not accept Federal Express or UPS, so that limits some of the mail
you can receive. Also, some private mail box places are open to clients 24 hours. My mail
box place when I lived in CA allowed me to check my mail any time, and also offers the
added benefit of being able to call in to see if there is mail waiting for me. There’s lots of
competition between private mailbox companies, so shop around for the best prices and
                    services.

But I now live in NY, and the closest private mail box is 40 miles away. So, yes, I now
have a P.O. Box. But it’s not recommended.

Step 5: A New Checking Account

You will need a separate checking account. That’s obvious, because you’ll be mailing
checks to creditors after you get your money. It’s unprofessional to use your personal
account with just your name on it. Creditors are a great source for referrals, so do it right.

Get nice looking checks, nothing fancy, with your business name on them. Consider
getting the longer business-type checks. They look more professional. I know this step
may seem basic, but I’m encouraging you not to look cheap. Always look professional.

Step 6: Your Business Phone, Scanner & Fax Set Up

Use separate phone lines for personal and business calls. Even at the start of your
business you want to appear as professional as possible. If a creditor calls you off your
website, and your daughter answers, well, not so cool.

Also, some data providers want to make sure you have a separate business phone. It
makes you more legitimate. To answer the phone, “Hello,” is not as effective as being able
to answer with your business name. Get a second phone line. It’s tax deductible because
                    it’s a business expense.
