C O N C E P T
Edogawa-ku is a special ward located in Tokyo Metropolis, Japan. It takes its name
from the Edogawa River that runs from north to south along the eastern edge of
the ward.
The client brief was to create a public elementary school consisting of three floors,
each having eight classrooms and activity rooms. Since this elementary school is
transformed from two elementary schools, the built up area is 7500sq. m.
The essence of the plan is the lively activities of children, teachers and local people.
Architecture and landscape are tools that initialize activities. The local symbol
community centered on Furukawa Shinsui Park, classrooms blend into expansion
of the school grounds.
The initial design development consists of climatic and linear approach towards
design, was to be found suitable. The site planning is based on the open spaces and
the students’ needs and wants.
