Arida is a city in Wakayama prefecture, Japan. It was founded by neighboring four
towns of Minoshima, Miyazaki, Yasuda, and Miahara to form a single city. The
main industries in Arida and surrounding areas are oil refining and fishing.
The client brief was to create a public junior high school that promotes both
literary and military education, along with information and communications
technology education.
The school aims to be active at national level both in sports and cultural clubs, as
well as introducing advance technology of ICT equipment to respond social
changes, and industrial structural changes caused by rapid development.
The school consists of four floors, each having six classrooms and activity rooms.
The essence of the plan is the lively activities of students. Both outdoor and
indoor sports are tools that encourage students to further develop skills.
Natural sunlight plays a major role in creation of the initial design development,
along with linear approach and hybrid ventilation.
