During my first office training in Tokyo, I was grateful to be a part of Mount Fuji
Architects Studio. I experienced few new qualitites such as developing design from a
tiny scale to vast scale of urban planning project, where I was required to design
street furniture with a given construction material and enlarging it to a bigger scale. I
also went on a site visit trip to observe how the roofing was constructed of a rent
housing building. I even learnt how earthquake proof structures are made during the
site visit. Making physical models for study is an important tool in Japan. It provides
further imagination and thoughtful thinking towards the planning and designing of
any building. I learnt that first, a rough plan is made, and then many study models are
created in other to form various ideas and further planning.
My second office training required me to design schools which was a totally new
experience for me. Since Coelacanth and Associates is famous for designing
educational facilities more than residential purposes, it helped me develop skills on
the concepts of schools and school furniture in the given environment. The relation
between the environment and the building somewhat inspired me to further design
and make connections. The site visits I went, acquired me to gain new knowledge in
the construction of buildings in general.
I am lucky to complete my office training in Tokyo, Japan.
