CHOCOLATE-LINED TOPSNAIL
(Calliostoma javanicum) < 4 cm / 1.5 in Pointed conical shell with thin chocolate-brown lines. Similar brown lines on a pale mantle. Dark brown tentacles.
Most of a snail’s body is hidden safely inside the shell. The visible part is called the mantle skirt, which can be very colorful. Looking closely one can see two or more pairs of antennae, as well as a protruding mouth called the proboscis. Small eyes are usually found at the base of the antennae.
