Page 5 - Is enough being done for the advocacy of Health Promotion in low-to-middle income community settings?
P. 5
A detailed explanation as to why I say there is not much that is being done to support health
in low to middle-income communities as earlier mentioned within the whole essay so far, is
because of the staggering rate of non-communicable diseases (diabetes, cancer, lung
diseases etc) especially in these communities due to the political and economic
interventions. Secondly, as earlier stated, the evident crime rates and acts of insurgency just
go to show how much social health as well as queues are lacking. Yet again, another
supporting factor as to the reason why I say there Is not much being done is due to the fact
that there is also a low life expectancy rate due to these non- communicable diseases as
well as obesity and just overall bad health. Furthermore, the stigma that comes with bad
mental health just goes to show the lack of interest in some aspects of “health promotion”
and lastly the government and economy (externally) itself does not really show that needed
boost of support of all of health promotion aspects in my opinion which is a huge
downside.
On a more personal note, in my community which is a middle to high-income community,
there isn’t much to go in my area but overall, around but there is an access to gyms and
other physical wellness centres which a good thing, my community also includes some
playing fields which are for scholars but can be used too by the public for a fee of course. In
regards to the social flow, there isn’t really much that goes on but overally people socialise
and get along well. In regards to the other areas of health as well, there is not much to go
around too but things are overally satisfactory. To improve the already general health
promoting activities that are already there, I would personally advocate for the inclusion of
mental health departments in churches as well as in clinics and or pharmacies. Secondly, I
would advocate for more gyms and fitness centres such that the pricing as well as diversity
in regards to the experience would be guaranteed. Yet another critical thing as to improve
the health of the community is to promote community activities like for example
community marathons per annum, community ball games just to name a few for these
would bring people more together than ever before. Lastly, I would suggest that a universal
park be included such that different estates can conjoin and be able to interact with each
other and get to know each other quite efficiently.
In the past nothing has ever really happened and as such I feel there is a need to introduce
at least one of the above-mentioned suggestions to at least boost the morale and health of
the community worse still due to the times that we are in now.
