SECURE: In groups of 3-4 – compose a short piece of music – 30-60 sec long that tries to TELL the story of the composing card. The scenario is just meant to be a start - you take the story where you want it to go. CHALLENGE: Justify your performance by discussing how you have manipulated the elements and why MASTERY: Conisder the MASTERY keywords - have you used any of them and to what effect? How does it tell the story?

The Elements to consider
     A knock at the door and ‘Could you help us?’ I hear.
I glance outside once and nevermore for the kid’s eyes were black and their faces austere...........
Tempo - Fast/Slow, Dynamic - Loud/Soft, Pitch Contrast - suddenly changing dynamics Instrumentation - What instruments you pick and how you write for them
MASTERY KEYWORDS
Techniques - Note Clusters - a group of notes close together, often clashes
Staccato - notes that are short and stabby Chromatic notes - Notes played next to each other - sounds eerie
Accents - a strong emphasised note
Pedal Notes - Long sustained bass notes Dissonance - notes/chords that clash Consonance - notes that are in harmony with each other
Ostinato - a repeated pattern - can also be rhyth- mic
