Dispersion Forces
Weakest type of intermolecular force
Occurs between nonpolar molecules
It’s a passing force, which lasts for a very short amount of time. However, the larger the element is, the stronger the force becomes.
As you move down in each group in the Periodic Table, the atom size gets bigger, which makes the force stronger.
Therefore, as you move down group 17, the atoms go from a gas to a liquid to a solid.
Bigger atoms = stronger forces
