Molecule-Ion Attraction
This attraction occurs when an ion is placed in water (which is polar). The water molecules will surround the ion.

A positive ion will be surrounded by the water molecules, with the ‘O’s (of
H2O) facing the ion.
The negative ‘O’ is attracted to the positive ion. See diagram 1 on following page
A negative ion will be surrounded by the water molecules, with the ‘H’ (of
H2O) facing the ion.
The positive ‘H’ is attracted to the negative ion. See diagram 2 on following page
