Half Reactions
HALF REACTION: The oxidation portion or the reduction portion of the redox reaction
In the equation Mg +Cl2 MgCl2
• Oxidation half reaction: Mg0 Mg+2 + 2e- • Reduction half reaction: 2Cl0 + 2e- Cl2-1
The half reaction must conserve the mass and charge of the elements involved.
