Voltaic Cells
VOLTAIC CELL: Cell used to separate spontaneous redox reactions
• The voltaic cell is made up of two cups filled with an ionic solution (water + ions). Each cup is called a HALF CELL.
• Inside each cup is metal strip called an ELECTRODE.
• The two electrodes are connected with a WIRE/EXTERNAL CONDUCTOR.
• The two cups of solution are connected with the SALT BRIDGE.
There are many Regents questions on this entire topic.
Let’s first understand the voltaic cell diagram. Then we will learn how it works.
