Average Atomic Mass Problem
What is the average atomic mass of element X, of which 20% is 20X and 80% is 30X?
Answer: Use the formula above and plug in the numbers.
(% × Mass) + (% × Mass)
(.20 × 20) + (.80 × 30) = 4 + 24 = 28
X has an average mass of 28. You can also write the answer as 28X or X-28.
