How to Name an Amine
1. Write the hydrocarbon name. Drop the ‘e’. 2. Add -amine to the end of the word.
Name this molecule.
We know that it’s an amine because it includes an N. So we will follow the rules for naming an amine.
1. The hydrocarbon is ethane; drop the ‘e’ to get ethan-.
2. Add -amine to get ethanamine.
Answer: ethanamine
We add the letters amine to the end of an amine molecule.
